ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Carlos Machado was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the age of four he started his path in the martial arts, learning from his relatives the popular style known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After attending law school in Rio, he decided to switch the "suit" for the "kimono", and teach the martial arts he fell in love with at an early age. Carlos with his four junior siblings known as the "Machado Brothers" after 20 years of teaching have been among the pioneers in the popularization of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in America. Training tens of thousands of students and spreading the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in all 50 states and across the world. Today he mentors a growing number of students, spread out all over the world. Many seek his knowledge on the mat, and in his perspective on the philosophy of Jiu-Jitsu. As he simply states, "I am not here to teach martial arts, but to change people's lives!"
